Located in Perth’s CBD, you would think London Court News and Lotto would be seen as just another shop, but that is not the case.
Owners Roger and Michelle have made it a part of the local community, including making extra dinners to give to the pensioners that visit each day for a chat, creating a local quote board (which has a large following) and building trust with the local homeless community.
London Court News and Lotto also supports charity fundraising efforts, such as the local social clubs, by supplying prizes. Roger and Michelle like the fact their customers know them by name, with people regularly coming up to them to say hi outside of work, even in Bali!
To illustrate how much Roger and Michelle care about their customers is when a pensioner came into the shop with a $200k scratch’n’win ticket. She was very distressed and not sure what to do. Michelle accompanied the lady in a taxi to Lotterywest and rang her sister en-route as she was too distressed to do so herself.
Michelle held her hand in the lift at Lotterywest, as the lady had a fear of lifts and then paid for her taxi home. Michelle was just pleased to be able to help but it was lovely when the lady returned to the shop to repay the $30 for the taxi along with flowers and chocolates a few days later.
