Howard Springs Newsagency is located in rural Howard Springs in the Northern Territory. The store has been owned by Lisa and Shaun MacDonald for the last three and a half years. They also own a post office in the town.
The family has always lived in Howard Springs and they enjoy having a small local newsagent – servicing your local community is part of their logo.
The store has retained its big range of magazines, unlike the other newsagencies in town, so customers will come in to find their favourite or have a browse.
“Many of our customers are older generation who like to read their magazines,” said Lisa. “We have some regulars that get us to put away their weekly, fortnightly or monthly magazines all the time.
“We also know that we need to cater to a wider audience and we have diversified since purchasing Howard Springs Newsagency. We have a much bigger gift range now. We are trying to appeal to the younger generations and have just started stocking Dungeons and Dragons products. We are only one of two stores in the Territory that stock this so that gives us a point of difference.”
Lisa and Shaun are very involved with the local community and support local charities and organisations regularly. Sometimes this means providing product for fundraisers or it could be running a raffle in store to raise needed funds for a current fundraiser.
“The local newsagent is the heart of the community and so we like to help whenever we can,” said Lisa.
